Checklist for USA Legal Permanent Resident
If you just arrived in the United States of America and you don't know
what to do, this checklist could help you. The following are the basic
documents you need to have to identify yourself as legal permanent
resident of USA.
- Permanent Resident Card or Green Card
- It shows your photo in your immigrant application form with the following details:
- Name
- Alien #
- Birthdate
- Category
- Sex
- Country of Birth
- Card expires
- Resident Since
- Date of Entry in the States
- You should use it every time you enter US.
- If you would travel to Canada, you have to show it with your passport at the port of entry.

- Social Security Number
- You need to apply for this if you wish to work.
- You have to use it if you are opening a bank account. It is one of the requirement.
- Your social security number is confidential. You should not share it to everyone to avoid identity theft.

- State ID or Driver's License
- If you can't drive, you can apply for state ID. However, you can't use it as your driver's license.
- One of the requirements to apply is you need to have at least two
letters addresses you and your current home address from two different
institutions. For example:
- Social Security
- Bank Statements
- Department of Homeland Security
